Computer readable media containing program instructions for monitoring locomotive engine emissions, the computer readable media comprising:

a computer program code for determining a location of a locomotive;

a computer program code for determining an emission profile of the locomotive as a function of the location of the locomotive;

a computer program code for controlling an operation of the locomotive in response to the emission profile;

a computer program code for monitoring values of an emission parameter of the locomotive corresponding to the emissions profile; and

a computer program code for storing the values of the emission parameter.
